GREATER NOIDA: A sessions court on Wednesday sentenced a man to 20 years of rigorous imprisonment for the abduction and rape of a 14-year-old girl in Greater Noida’s Surajpur.
According to the girl’s statement before the court, Sunil – from Fatehpur (Uttar Pradesh) – was a neighbour. On July 2, 2015, she was on her way to a tuition class when he asked her to accompany him to a local shop nearby.
“There he offered me something to eat which was laced with sedatives. Soon I lost consciousness and then he raped me,” the girl told the court. She also said she used to consider him as a “brother”.
The girl’s parents were not home at the time the incident took place. Her father filed a police complaint after she did not return home that day. Later they found that Sunil, then 20 years old, was absconding from his home and suspected his role behind her disappearance. “We visited her tuition class and we came to know that she did not attend tuition. We later found that Sunil was absconding,” the father said.
Police subsequently went to Sunil’s house where they found the girl unconscious. Sunil, on the run, was caught the next day and sent to judicial custody.
Gautam Budh Nagar additional district and sessions judge, POCSO, Manoj Kumar on Wednesday convicted the man and sentenced him to 20 years of rigorous imprisonment (RI).
Sunil was sentenced for five years and fined Rs 3,000 under Section 363 (kidnapping) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). Separately, he was sentenced to 20 years in jail under Section 4(2) of the Pocso Act, the order said. The convict will have to serve an additional six months in jail if he fails to pay the fine. Noida deputy commissioner of police (women security) Vrinda Shukla said on Wednesday that the force is pursuing cases of crimes against women and children seriously to ensure swift justice is delivered.
(The victim’s identity has not been revealed to protect her privacy as per Supreme Court directives on cases related to sexual assault)
