NOIDA: A proposed cultural wing of the Greater Noida authority (GNIDA) will organise events and functions to promote and showcase the city’s local art, officials said on Thursday.
The separate wing – the first for a civic body in the Gautam Budh Nagar district — will likely involve officials and staff members who are currently part of the authority.
“A senior official of the level of general manager could be given an additional charge. Its finer points are being chalked out. The wing will have its own funds allocated for holding events and cultural functions. Presently, a lot of programmes are not held in the township,” an official said.
The Greater Noida Industrial Development Authority (GNIDA) has sought residents’ suggestions on the kind of programmes they want to see. The aim is to involve residents and promote local artists rather than just focusing on well-known names in the industry, the official cited above said.
Non-government organizations (NGOs) too may be roped in.
GNIDA will collaborate with local bodies and focus on holding multiple smaller programmes as well. These could include events for children and kavi sammelans for poets.
“Like Holi, big programmes can be planned on establishment day of the authority and other major festivals,” the official said.
This initiative was announced on Wednesday by the Authority CEO, Narendra Bhooshan, during a cultural program organised at City Park on the occasion of Holi. “Any society is identified by its cultural heritage. To promote the culture of Greater Noida, cultural programmes will now be organised every month,” Bhooshan had said. The proposal will be presented for discussion in the next board meeting expected sometime next month.
