NOIDA/GHAZIABAD: The health department in Gautam Budh Nagar is gearing up to inoculate people above 45 years from April 1. While the exact number of people who will be eligible in this category is not known yet, officials said that according to their estimate, around 1 lakh residents in that age group are currently not included in the third phase of the vaccination drive.
With eight additional centres approved, Noida now has 94 centres to conduct the inoculation drive — 51 government and 43 private facilities.
“We already have over 90 centres. It means that we can vaccinate around 18,000 people daily. We can easily speed up the process as and when required,” said Dr Deepak Ohri, chief medical officer (CMO), Gautam Budh Nagar.
In Ghaziabad, about 20 health and wellness centres would be included in the vaccination process from April 1.
The health department has also got permission to conduct the drive from four additional private hospitals across the district. With this, the number of private hospitals involved in the process has increased to 36. Vaccines are being administered at 48 government facilities as well.
On March 8, officials had written to the National Health Mission stating that four private facilities had shown interest in conducting the vaccination drive. Officials had sought permission for these facilities to inoculate people.
About 6 lakh people over 45 will be eligible this time.
